- Veganism is a diet which excludes the intake of any animal by-product. No cheese, no milk, no hooves.
- The corn husk leaves are turned the wrong way.
- The bus, No. 142, is based on Chris McCandless' temporary home in Jon Krakauer's 1996 non-fiction book Into the Wild.
- Johnny's coat is based on one that I own. Long, heavy and dark green. Tag says "Kasper."
- Sheila is the name of the card-swiper at Cowles Dining Hall on north campus. She was a little eccentric, and knew everyone's name.
- I never jumped a train.
- Johnny is drawn from a distance in the first two panels because I didn't really know what he looked like. I never made any character sketches.
- This first cartoon is drawn with a loose crow quill nib. So was the text. The blacks were washed in with an old watercolor brush.
- Cowles actually starts at 11:15 on weekdays.

- I worked at Cowles my first semester and got one of those hats. Then after I quit I lost it in the Harris movie theater.
- Dean was first named Justin and was supposed to be a hippie sidekick character.
- The labels above the sneeze guard read (v) for vegan food and (ol) for oval-lactose or something.
- Josh is Josh Hanson, a friend from high school, and inspiration for the character "Jash Henson."
- I set up a hotmail email account to get responses from the cartoon. I got zero emails.
- I had not been to Bob's yet when I wrote the conclusion.
- Professor Lopatto was the behavioral psychology professor. I was taking Intro Psych at the time.
- I remember being really worried that people would be upset about me making fun of vegans. Nope. No one said a thing.
