Absent is my last attempt at cartooning at Grinnell. It embodies the soul of absurdist comedy, while still recognizing an underlying coherent message. The ghost-like men of Absent exist in their own consciousness; their stories are meditations on one's existence in a world without time or place. Like watching the shadows on the wall of Plato's cave, reading Absent will be benign and meaningless unless you have the courage to break free from your cartooning-reading fetters and turn around to view the source of the light.
